1. Check to see whether Cold Fusion Server is already installed on your machine.  If it is, move to another machine.  To see whether it is installed, you can type http://localhost:8500 in the location bar of your browser.  8500 is the default port number for the Cold Fusion server.  In Windows 2000, which is what is used in the classroom, Cold Fusion runs as a service whereas in Windows 98 or ME it would appear as a program under Start, Programs.

2. Go to the Macromedia download site to download the software.  Download it to the desktop.  Then double click it to install it.  You will be presented with a series of choices.  Choose the following -- ask the instructor if you are presented with a choice not shown here:

-Install the software to its default locations
-Install the software to run with its own server
-Install the server administrator and RDS with the same password.  This password will be given to you by the instructor

3. Once installed, verify that your installation is working by typing http://localhost:8500 in the location bar of your browser.
