Your task is to recreate the NVCC Alexandria home page at
www.nvcc.edu/alexandria
using Dreamweaver and then put it on your site. Here are some suggestions on
how to do this:
- Create a tracing image from the current site using Print Screen and a graphics
program such as Microsoft PhotoEditor.
- Save the current page in Internet Explorer. This will download most of the
images you need.
- The "over" image in a simple mouseover can be obtained by putting
your cursor over the image so that the over version shows, and then right
clicking.
- If the mouseover changes an image elsewhere on the page and the mouseout
changes it back you will not be able to right click on the image elsewhere
on the page while the over version is showing. One way to get the image file
is to look at the source code to determine the filename and location of the
over image and then enter this in the location bar of the browser. Another
alternative is to use programs to download files from a site. FrontPage has
a capability for that -- it tends to turn links into absolute links that reference
the c drive but here all one is interested in is the images. There's also
a free for non-commerical use program called WebStripper which I tried recently.
- Diagram the current site to figure out the necessary tables or use Dreamweaver
layers.
- Insert rollover buttons for simple rollovers
- Use behaviors for complex rollovers
- None of the links has to go anywhere - you can use # as the destination
In addition to these steps, please do the following:
- Turn the navigational bar at the bottom into a library item
- In a separate page, please comment briefly on the design aspects of the
Alexandria home page
